Antioch, known as the Gateway to the Delta, can be found right off Highway 4 in Contra Costa County. Its population has reached over 100,000 people, so while being one of the smaller communities in the Contra Costa County, it still hosts a variety of recreational, employment, and shopping opportunities.

In comparison to the other parts of the Bay Area, land remains in abundance and is actually affordable, with retail and office space leasing for 20 to 30 percent less the other spaces located in central Contra Costa County.

One of the most sought-after qualities about Antioch is its affordable housing, which is scarce among the Bay Area communities. Homes styles ranging from condos to family residences, priced for a range of income levels, can be found in this area.

Service-oriented businesses, as well as insurance institutions and contracting, have become more popular as the pace of development has increased. This has created increased employment in these areas, such as in schools, hospitals, and other service sectors.

Although these areas sectors to be booming, people from Antioch seem to drift to larger cities for work, like Oakland and San Francisco. The growth over the last thirty years in Antioch has surged, and the population will continue to grow as real estate in the larger cities becomes increasingly expensive. People simply can’t afford to live in the bigger cities and choose to move to a more inexpensive community on the outskirts of the Bay Area instead.

Boating is very popular in Antioch, and because of this there are several private marinas, yacht clubs, and boatyards littered through the city, along with a municipal marina. Located right in town is a public fishing pier, and there is another located close to the Antioch Bridge. Located upstream from Antioch Bridge is the San Joaquin River, which is also considered a prime fishing spot.

The main provider of public transportation in the Antioch area is Tri-Delta Transit, although the County Connection bus #930 also connects and goes to John Muir Medical Center, Mitchell Park n' Ride, Railroad Castlewood, Delta Fair Sommersville and Hillcrest Park 'n Ride. The two major stations that can be found in this area are the Antioch-Pittsburg Amtrak station and Pittsburg/Bay Point Station in Pittsburg. Access to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is located at the Pittsburg/Bay Point Station.
